Spiritual Vitality: Further Developing our Characteristics of Life and Faith

Financial Stewardship Commitment for 2012 General Ministry Fund  Pledge here

This fall we are considering what spiritual vitality looks like for us as a congregation and for us as individuals.  Each Sunday we look at a different characteristic and how we might fashion our lives, spirits, and congregation to be even more spiritually alive and effective.

To be vital as a congregation, we are making plans for extending our outreach, programming, and ministry.   The Launch Team is exploring these avenues for our consideration.  In addition, new ventures in worship, youth and children’s programming are underway, and opportunities for spiritual formation are expanding.  As we pause in our pilgrimage to our new location we are not standing still.  It is thrilling to see the new ministries emerge, and the possibilities with the new space upstairs for youth and other programming.

Each of these characteristics is a call to personal reflection as well.   How might you enlarge your faith journey in response to each of these characteristics?  I encourage you to carefully consider these and make some commitments this fall to deepening your faith journey.  Fortunately, ways of doing this are clear and abundant.

This holistic approach to our spiritual life includes our fall Stewardship Campaign as an integral part.  To be vital we need to be persons whose whole lives are connected to our faith—to be vital as a congregation, we need to offer up our gifts to this new effort.  Each Sunday as we look at the various aspects of vitality, someone in our congregation will offer their “Faith Focus” reflection on how our church has enabled them to be spiritually alive and vital.  We will be seeking pledges toward our new ministry efforts in 2012, collecting them on October 30th.

As we’ve talked about so often, giving is a spiritual discipline—a spiritual practice that shapes our souls and engages us with what God is doing in the world.  Increasing our pledges by a percentage of our income each year is one concrete way we can demonstrate our commitment and stretch ourselves in faith.  We will hold you and your household in prayer this fall as you consider increasing your giving.

We are spiritually vital.  That is evident by the faces of youngsters in Faith Walk, in the voices of our youth, in the energy of worship, programs of outreach, mission, compassion and justice we are part of.  This fall, we each can respond by going ever-deeper in trust and faith.  Thank you for the commitment you offer to our ministry!
