First United Methodist Camping and Canoeing weekend usually in July.
2011 Canoeing adeventure----Nine families or individuals, twenty five souls, made their way to Star Lake Wilderness Camp near Pequot Lakes for fun, camping, canoeing, picnicking, fishing, and swimming. Despite the Friday monsoons the Garvin family set up camp and enjoyed the evening. The rest of the crew came up Saturday morning in the hot mist of a sure to be hot summer day. Spirits were high as we gathered and sorted ourselves into nine canoes. We paddled across several lakes, through a magical channel filled with darting fish and a waterscape of Monet like lilies stretched before us. Heather and Kim Colgan raced Kenneth Conteh and the Klisches across the final lake to our picnic island. It was a close call so both parties think they won. And the fun they had made the teams both winners. As a lovely picnic was enjoyed several fisherman caught a whole stringer full of fish that were then cleaned and enjoyed as part of our evening meal. The sun burned off the dewy mist of the morning as we paddled our way back to camp, the day heated up. The afternoon was enjoyed at the beach in the cool waters of Star Lake as the heat index reached 100. Some returned home but those that remained cooked up hamburgers and hotdogs and the fresh fish. Campfires were enjoyed and s’mores were eaten as the day wound down. In gratefulness for God’s creation and the joy of community the Saturday night campers awoke and gathered for a worship service lead by Teresa Colgan Sunday morning.
