First Concepts of our new facility on Pine Cone Road.
These renderings, provided by our Architect, Ed Kodet, are the first attempt at developing a facility that will meet our needs. Your feedback will be essential as we refine these plans. The picture above is an aerial taken from the northeast looking southwest. The water on the left is a proposed retaining pond near Pine Cone Road. Note the covered drive up to the front door and the ample parking.
This site plan shows parking for 250 cars (at present we have 30 or so), and the drive onto the property from Pine Cone Road (right). Note again the drive up and the additional parking. This plan shows future building expansion ideas (phases). The retaining pond is located east (right) of the church. The land developer at present is excavating a large 2-3 acre pond on the south side of our property which will be beautiful. Drive by and check it out.
Looking at the main level, you note the drive up at the top of the drawing. Entrance leads to a large lobby/gathering space. The gathering space (wide hallway) leads to both the Sanctuary and the fellowship/multi-use space.
This process is costly, and so the possibility of gaining significant program space at a minimum cost with a lower level emerged.
The Sanctuary is designed to seat nearly 500, is table-centric, and will be two stories tall. On the north (upper) side is a chapel to be used for small settings of worship, small funerals, weddings, etc. and multi-function as choir rehearsal space. Large rolling doors will open into the main Sanctuary for overflow. This capacity to overflow is also possible by the large and numerous doors that open into the gathering space, and in fact, all the way into the fellowship area on those occasions when we need it. A large kitchen is attached to this area. The administrative wing fills the hallway as you enter on the north side, providing visibility to the parking area and the entrance. To the east of the Sanctuary is envisioned an outdoor worship space. In the lobby, near the entrance, offices, and Sanctuary, is a set of stairs and elevator to the lower level (see below).
The Soil Boring results indicated that if we were going to build at ground level on a slab, we would have to remove the top 8-12 feet of poor soil and replace it with other material suitable to build upon. This process is costly, and so the possibility of gaining significant program space at a minimum cost with a lower level emerged. The elevator/stairway enters this level near the Nursery and large bathrooms. Three large meeting rooms will be multi-use spaces for our education program. They are currently in phase 2, meaning that they will be unfinished until funding is found to finish them. Since it is a lower level, light is extremely important and so the design includes a courtyard on the west side to allow large amounts of light into every room in the lower level that is used for programming.
A closer depiction shows one possibility of using our stained glass in the sanctuary. The large windows on the east side of the Sanctuary might be a location for some of our stained glass to be featured in wood frames on rollers mounted on the ceiling so that we can change which stained glass is there when we want. The large curving feature is a bell tower so that our bell (which we've had for over 100 years) could go with us and mark this building and space as sacred. At the end of the wall extending from the Sanctuary is proposed a tall United Methodist Flame and Cross to indicate to the community that this is a church, and something of its identity. Note the A-frame skylight on the roof of the Sanctuary to let in natural light above the chancel and choir sections. In the back (west side) note the possibility of having the labyrinth garden and Memorial Garden.
This view shows the drive-up, handicapped parking (left) and the large windows on the west side letting illumination into the main and lower level. Note the bridge walkway from the Fellowship area into the Gardens area. There is also a separate drive to the side door for supplying and servicing the kitchen. Here you can see the retaining pond to the east (towards Pine Cone Road).
This view is from Pine Cone Road. The large windows into the Sanctuary and the Chapel are evident.
Your feedback in refining this vision is vital to our process. Please provide feedback here or better yet, become involved in discussions and meetings. They are open to anyone who wishes to be a part of it.
