The Table is prepared for the following ninth through twelfth graders:
* those who are interested in being confirmed,
* those who are already confirmed, and/or
* those who want to participate in a time of fellowship with friends
In other words, The Table is open to all ninth through twelfth graders. We will meet from 7:30- 9:00 pm on Wednesday evenings in the Youth Room.
Using the parable of the Banquet as our metaphor (Luke 14:16-24), we will explore times when we are the “invited guests,” as well as times when we feel left out. We’ll consider how we respond to the many invitations we receive. We’ll imagine ways we might become more welcoming to others. Based on our many experiences, including everything from the school lunch table to the ways we serve others, we will examine how we are nourished, hungry, broken, and given.
Our evenings at church are typically divided into two parts. First, we take time to “check in” each week. This is an opportunity to reflect on how we are doing, as well as a chance to offer our attention and care to others as we listen to their stories. This is a sacred time set aside for reflection and fellowship, a time to listen for- and learn to recognize- God’s “still, small voice” in our lives.
The second part of our evening is a time for exploring faith topics together, and youth will be invited to propose topics that are of special interest to them. We all have questions when it comes to faith, and The Table is a welcoming, open, and safe place to decide for ourselves what we believe and what is meaningful
Throughout our time together, we will also become familiar with our sacred texts, exploring the stories that shape our tradition. While there is no way we can cover the entire Bible in the course of a year, we will turn to the books of the Bible for guidance and inspiration.
Retreats and Service Opportunities are offered throughout the year. A Service of Confirmation is offered each fall for Table members in tenth grade and above.
